Phillip Afolabi, a postgraduate student in the UK, has accused Ethiopian Airlines of failing to refund his N288,711 five months after he first made a request for it.
Afolabi told FIJ that he had written to the airline several times and got assurances that they would refund him, all to no avail.
He said that on February 10, his departure date, the Ethiopian Airlines agent who attended to him refused to let him go after screening, due to an issue on his covid-19 vaccination card.

The postgraduate student said that he tried all he could to explain why the date he received the second jab of the vaccine as written on the card differed from what appeared on the computer after the agent scanned the QR code, but his efforts amounted to nothing.
“I told him that I missed the actual date for the second jab, but I went there at a later date to receive it, yet he did not listen to me. He advised me to go do a Covid-19 test and a pre-departure test, and re-book my flight for the next day,” Afolabi told FIJ.
Afolabi said after he did all the agent asked him to do, he found out that the ticket price had gone up to N500,000, so he used another airline instead.

He said he emailed Ethiopian Airlines to request a refund when he arrived in the UK on February 14 but the company failed to reply to him until he mailed them the second time in March.
“They assured me that they would pay me when I mailed them in March, but ever since, they have been mute. My N288,711 is still with them,” he said.
FIJ placed several calls to Ethiopian Airlines via two of its numbers displayed online, but they were not answered. At press time, the company had also not responded an email and a text message sent to them.
