Justus Obasi, an Anambra-based man, has accused the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of depriving him and his siblings of his mother’s entitlements more than five years after her death.

His mother, Georgina Obasi, was an FRSC official from 1991 to her death in September 2017 as an assistant corps commander after a brief illness in Awka.

The Anambra-based man told FIJ he and his siblings had teamed up to request their mother’s benefits since her passing in 2017 but the FRSC remained a stumbling block.

He said his family was entitled to certain benefits because his mother passed on while still active in service but the commission denied them these benefits.

Obasi stated that he and his siblings submitted the required documents to retrieve their mother’s benefits after meeting the court requirements but it had yielded no positive result.

The only thing the commission has done since his mother’s death is cover her burial ceremony in 2017 and pay some of her insurance benefits.

“We started processing her benefits in 2017, and till now, we have not got anything. We visited Abuja from Awka for some of the benefits, but FRSC did nothing,” Obasi told FIJ.

Obasi said he and his siblings also tried all they could to get their mother’s pension and entitlements but without success.

“We have tried our efforts to get my mother’s entitlements: her pension, complete life insurance, gratuity and national housing scheme, but we have not succeeded,” he said.

“I have made efforts to contact First Guarantee Pension, but they said it was not their fault we had not got it because some parts had to come from the federal government and the FRSC.”

Even if FRSC will not employ us, Obasi said, they should give us her pension, gratuity and national housing scheme, and pay us her insurance.

“We have called the FRSC and even contacted the sector command in Awka RS5.3, but nothing has happened. Going from Anambra to Abuja to submit documents has been hectic,” he said.

“We have submitted the documents needed to get her pension, but no one has communicated anything. We contacted the National Pension Commission (PenCom) but got no feedback, the same as First Guaranty Trust and the FRSC.

“When I sent a direct message to PenCom on Twitter, they responded at first but stopped replying me after a while.”

When FIJ called the FRSC for comments, a respondent from the commission asked this reporter to tell the source to email [email protected], attaching all necessary documents.
