Jane Osazuwa, a resident of Benin, Edo State, has narrated how one Collins Odahbor raped Glory John, an 11-year-old maid, to death.
Osazuwa told FIJ that John, who worked as a maid for her aunt, was fetching water near Ekehuan Barracks in Benin, the state capital, when Odahbor saw her and offered to help on April 28.
When Glory declined Odahbor’s offer, he became aggressive and carried her jerrycan of water to his house, which was directly opposite where she was fetching water.

“The man came to meet her offering to help her with the jerry can of water but the girl said no,” Osazuwa said, while recounting what Glory told her and her aunt.
“As they were arguing, Odahbor carried the jerrycan and entered his compound, telling her, if you have mind, come and carry it.
“The girl entered the compound and was about to carry the jerry can when the man dragged her into his house, closed the door and forcefully slept with her. When she got back to the shop, she was bleeding and had to be rushed to a hospital.”
Glory later died in the hospital from excessive bleeding.
Odahbor was arrested by officers from the Ekehuan Police Station in Benin on April 29. He was later transferred to Evbuotubu Police Station, still in Benin.
The police also retrieved Odahbor’s blood-stained bedspread, and took it to the station as investigation into the matter continued.
However, rumours that Odahbor’s wealthy family were making efforts to buy justice were rife on Sunday, prompting a public outcry for justice.

FIJ made several calls to Bello Kontongs, Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, but he did not answer them. He had also not replied to an SMS sent to him at press time.
Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Headquarters PRO, also assured the general public of justice on the matter via a tweet on Sunday.
