The legislative arm of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko Students’ Union (AAUASU), has given the executive arm a three-day ultimatum, from October 25 to 27, to submit the union’s statement of account.

In a letter dated October 22, 2021, and titled  “LETTER OF ULTIMATUM FOR THE PROVISION OF AAUASU STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT”, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), through Rt. Honourable Adeleke Rasheed, the speaker, and Comrade Folorunsho Ahmed Adekunle, the clerk, suspended further withdrawal from the account until the statement is provided.

“Failure to provide the statement of account of the AAUASU within the earlier stipulated time shall invite the wrath of the constitution,” the letter reads in part.

“Transactions pertinent to withdrawal of funds from the students’ union account are hereby suspended until the statement of account of the students’ union is received by the Students Representatives Council (SRC).”

The AAUASU SRC had vowed in a press release dated October 19, 2021, to summon those alleged to have shattered the union’s integrity. A copy of the press release signed by the SRC speaker and the clerk was obtained by FIJ.

On October 17, FIJ reported the emblezzlement of N1.2 million by Obagunwa Oluwasegun (Supreme), the immediate past union president, and Amodu Abiola (Eja Nla), the immediate past senate president, and the failure of the latter to ensure the union’s account was presented as expected.

STUDENTS UNION PRESIDENT REACTS

In response to the ultimatum issued by the AAUASU SRC, the Students Executive Council (SEC), through Kolade Olumide (Multiple), the newly sworn-in president of the union, said his administration was yet to have access to the union account due to the inability to get some members of the immediate past executives who are signatories to the account.

“Sequel to the letter earlier relayed through the office of the senate president, requesting the release of the AAUASU statement of account, it has now become imperative to note and, indeed emphatically, that the  student union executive under the leadership of Comrade Kolade Olumide Multiple is yet to have access to the aforementioned account, owing to the unreachability of some executive members of the past administration who are signatories to the union’s account,” he said.

Olumide, in his reply, further said several efforts to ensure a change of signatories had been unfruitful.

He said, “All substantial efforts geared by the office of the president to ensuring that the concerned executive members of the past administration do the needful have been unfruitful.”

He also beseeched his fellow students to disregard the notion that he had refused to present the union’s statement of account like his predecessor.
