Just one week after purchasing tickets worth N274,690 with Dana Air, a Nigerian airline, for herself and her family, Bunmi Omotesho, a civil servant living in Abuja, learnt that their tickets had been cancelled in April.
Omotesho told FIJ on Friday, that the airline informed her that it cancelled their Abuja-Lagos tickets due to operational audits by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the regulatory body for aviation in Nigeria.
She further explained that she had since written to the airline requesting a refund, but Dana Air had not only failed to oblige her request but also stopped responding to her emails.

“On April 18, I paid Dana Air for the tickets of four people for flights scheduled for May 12,” Omotesho told FIJ.
“However, two weeks before our trip, I received an email from the airline saying that the flights had been cancelled.
“Almost immediately, I reached out to them for a refund but they did not budge. I started to write emails to them but they have stopped responding altogether.”
Omotesho is still requesting a ticket refund from Dana Air.

Kingsley Ezenwa, Dana Air’s communication consultant, told FIJ on Wednesday that the airline was working towards resolving all its backlogs. He attributed the delay in refunds to the aviation company’s reduced staff strength.
“The task five people would usually perform is now being carried out by one person. The work is slower but everyone will get their refund,” Ezenwa told FIJ.
Ezenwa also said that the refunds were not limited to customers whose tickets were cancelled by the airline after their Air Operator Certificate (AOC) was suspended, but included customers expecting refunds from them before the suspension.
Meanwhile, Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, told FIJ that it had given the airline an ultimatum of two weeks to clear its refund backlog.

I’m also a victim, almost 200k for myself and my wife, they responded initially requested for all receipts, ID and bank details for refunds, after I sent all, they kept saying they were paying batch by batch… It’s 5months now and they are still paying in batches, meanwhile, I have not heard of anyone who has been refunded,
All their offices in Abuja are no more in operation till date.
I am also a victim of Dana’s cheating. I booked a flight for my uncle and his wife on July 19th 2022 and it was cancelled. It was a return ticket to Enugu on 26th and 28th July 2022 with number GXMNLB. The value was N200,000 without charges but Dana till today has not responded to my refund request.

I am also a victim…. I paid 120k since March and they are yet to refund after so many emails sent to them.
I am also a victim of this DANA flight cancellation. I got for my mum Owerri to Abuja. All mails to them has yielded nothing but “send the details, ID, phone number, PNR which I have sent 22 times already.
Now the email is no longer going through.

Dana Air has refused to refund my money after my flight was cancelled for my trip that I booked ahead on 3/4/2024 from Port Harcourt to Abuja that was scheduled on the 03/5/2024 . I was asked to send all the necessary items needed for refund via mail ,since 26/4/2024 till date nothing have been done. It is very annoying after all the inconvenience, yet refund as become an issue, now I can’t reach then on all platform for answer. FIJ please assist me in getting back my refund .
