Gbemisola Fasiku, an Oyo State resident, has accused Ademola Adeniyi, an estate manager, of defrauding her friend of N120,000.

Fasiku told FIJ that Adeniyi, a friend she made on Facebook in 2021, recently begged her to introduce him to clients who needed to rent apartments because he was a house agent.

Fasiku said she introduced one of her friends to Adeniyi in July, and on August 5, the said friend and her husband (names withheld) paid N120,000, 50 percent deposit for a room and a parlour self-contained apartment situated along Iwo road in Ibadan, to the agent.

“The total package, including tenancy agreement and agent fees, cost N240,000. Adeniyi requested the N120,000 deposit without showing the couple the apartment they were paying for,” Fasiku said.

“I told my friend and her husband to make the deposit and I vouched for the agent, so they paid.

“Adeniyi further said the reason he requested for the deposit was because the landlord wanted to make some repairs in the apartment with the money.

“The next day however, the agent called to say my friend and her husband should pay the balance but they refused. They asked him to take them to the apartment to see things for themselves before making further payments.

“Since that day, Adeniyi has been avoiding us. He has also issued a threat that he would block us on all the platforms we can possibly reach him on. To make good his threat, he blocked me on Facebook. My friend’s rent where she currently stays has expired since June and the landlord has been asking them to either leave or renew their rent.”

Fasiku told FIJ that Adeniyi gave her the number of a man he claimed to be the landlord he was representing but the ‘landlord’, whose name is ‘Arugbo Bankole’, has not been taking their calls.

When FIJ called Adeniyi, he said Bankole had changed his mind on giving the apartment out.

“The landlord has said he wants to give the apartment to his daughter instead. She is about to get married,” Adeniyi said.

“I would have given them their money earlier, but I will get it to them this week, how much is N120,000?”

When FIJ called Bankole, he confirmed that Adeniyi manages his properties. He told FIJ that he was expecting Adeniyi to rent out another apartment so he could refund the couple from the proceeds.
