GOTV has extended Reginald Abanum’s (not real name) subscription renewal date to September 4.

This came after FIJ intervened in a 4-month dispute between the customer and the pay television terrestrial service outfit.

On April 29, Abanum, a Lagos resident, made a three-month N3,450 extension payment to GOTV on its quarterly package plan.

“Before making the April 29 payment, I still had an active subscription that was supposed to expire on June 3,” Abanum told FIJ on July 9.

“If I had not made the April payment, my subscription would have expired on June 4.

“With the new N3,450 payment, however, my subscription was supposed to expire on September 4.

“On June 4, GOTV shockingly suspended my account. After a series of complaints, it was restored, and I was informed that July 27 would be my new repayment date.

“This was a far cry from the September 3 payment renewal date I was expecting.”

Abanum told FIJ that he subsequently sent several emails to GOTV on the issue but did not get any positive resolution from the sub-Saharan firm.

“I also physically visited their office, but the officials I spoke with only told me they would work on my complaints without doing so,” said Abanum.

“This is about getting value for what I paid for, even if it is one kobo.”

When FIJ sent an email to GOTV on the issue on July 9, Funke Akinbote, one of its officials, responded, saying necessary corrections would be effected on Abanum’s account.

On Friday evening, Abanum phoned FIJ to say he had received a phone call and a confirmation email from GOTV affirming that his subscription renewal date had been extended to September 4.

“Thank you so much, FIJ, for intervening. GOTV refused to do the right thing until I brought the matter to your notice,” Abanum said.

“I have been demanding for the rightful renewal date for four months, but GOTV would not do the right thing.

“Like I said, this is beyond the money I paid; it is about receiving value for what I paid for. I am grateful, FIJ.”
