The N40,500 deducted from the Zenith Bank account of Toyin Kayode, a resident of Ogun State, following an unauthorised Google Play Store subscription has been refunded.
Kayode revealed on Tuesday that Google Play reversed the sum on January 16, the same day FIJ emailed Google Play to inquire about the refund status.
The Ogun resident had told FIJ she cancelled the subscription for the paid version of InVideo AI: Video Generator as soon as she noticed the unauthorised deduction from her account in December.
When FIJ reached out to InVideo in January, the support team said that Google Play was responsible for issuing the refund because it manages purchases made through its platform.
However, Google Play did not respond to FIJ’s inquiries, nor did it notify Kayode about the refund. By January 16, three weeks had passed since the Google user requested a refund.
When FIJ did not get any feedback from Google Play days later, a report was published on the incident on January 20.

While speaking with FIJ on Tuesday, Kayode said she only got to know that the N40,500 had been refunded weeks later because her account was blocked following the unauthorised subscription.

“I’m grateful. The money was reversed on January 16 but I was notified last week. Thanks very much for the good job,” she said.
“There was no notification because my account was blocked. While trying to reopen my account’s e-channels, the bank instructed me to print my account last Friday. That was how I discovered the money had been reversed.”
