The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) now has a consultant to assist Nigerians who face challenges processing a Police Character Certificate (PCC), FIJ has gathered.
This comes eight months after FIJ investigated the Force and exposed how its officers were fleecing Nigerians of tens of thousands of naira when they appeared for physical biometric capturing.
When FIJ probed the police at the time, the reporter found that corruption allowed anyone to get a PCC without proper checks and scrutiny.
Applicants pay a N30,000 online application fee as publicised on the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP) portal, then they visit a police station to get their biometrics captured. It is at these stations that officers demand an extra fee.
On March 11, Charles Chinweike, an Abuja resident, made an X post detailing how the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the FCT Command attempted to extort him when he went for biometric capturing.
Following this claim, Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), quoted his post and said a consultant would attend to him.

The FPRO’s post read, “The consultant will attend to this, thanks. +2348034541744. Call the officer always when you have any issue with the PCC. Take note of this, and share with those in need.”
Earlier, Adejobi told FIJ the Force was probing the lapses in PCC procurement to make the process contactless. Despite this pledge, more Nigerians continue to experience extortion at the hands of policemen.
