The Ogun State Government has said the ongoing Dende-Odo road project in the state will be completed by December.

Speaking to FIJ on Tuesday, Oladele Adebayo, Personal Assistant to the Commissioner for Works, said the government got a report from Visible Constructions Ltd., the project contractor, on Monday, stating that the delivery would not exceed 2021.

According to Adebayo, 20 percent of the mobilisation fee was paid to the contractor in October 2020 when work began on the 2.3 kilometre road.

“At that place, they are working on the bridge. They are also working on a drainage. We have resident engineers there. Just yesterday, they submitted a report and pictures. When they are working on a 2.3 kilometre road, you don’t expect to see work everywhere. But from the report, the contractor is still on site,” he said.

On Thursday, FIJ had reported that the road was heavily flooded due to a lack of drainage, putting commuters at the mercy of canoe paddlers who charged N100 to transport an individual across the water.

Back in April, Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Governor, had assured residents of swift intervention. He said the contracts had been awarded and that the road would be fixed with covered drainage and streetlights. However, five months after, so little progress has been made.
