Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo (AE-FUNAI), Ebonyi State, has paid earned academic allowances (EAA) to lecturers enrolled in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) of the federal government.

FIJ had reported that the lecturers were exempted from the allowances paid to the school’s academic staff on Friday, January 14.

Some of those affected alleged that the institution’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) intentionally withheld their allowances because it was vexed by the lecturers’ decision to enroll in IPPIS, a system the union continues to fault.

When FIJ contacted Egwu Ogugua, AE-FUNAI ASUU chairman, he said, “We deal with our issues within the confines of our code of practice. I don’t have to discuss with the press how we manage our affairs”.

A source told FIJ that ASUU AE-FUNAI wanted lecturers enrolled in IPPIS to be cleared by the association’s ethics committee before they would be paid.

However, some of the affected lecturers confirmed to FIJ that all owed EAAs were paid on Thursday, three days after FIJ’s story.
