The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has sent an outstanding 216 kWh of token units to Agnes Aromolaran*, a Lagos resident.
Aromolaran, who recently complained about the distribution company’s fraudulent allocation of 88.8 kWh instead of 305 kWh of prepaid electricity tokens to her, told FIJ on Wednesday that she was sent the outstanding token units on Tuesday evening.
“On March 24, I got a call from EKEDC, and they apologised for the inconvenience the incident had caused me,” Aromolaran said.
“They then promised that they would send a refund of the outstanding token units to me.

“Yesterday, I mean March 25, they sent me an outstanding token of 216 kWh. I have successfully loaded the newly sent 216 kWh of tokens and the 88.8 kWh that was initially sent on my prepaid meter.
“Thank you so much FIJ, for all you do. I am very grateful. Thank you. Your support is well appreciated.”
On March 6, FIJ reported how EKEDC made the fraudulent allocation of 88.8 kWh instead of 305 kWh to Arolomaran after she made a N20,000 purchase for electricity tokens. The incident happened on February 13.
After Aromolaran was sent the significantly lower token units, she lodged a complaint with EKEDC’s customer service desk but was told her prepaid meter had recently been upgraded to Band A due to its connection to a major power supply chain.

The power distribution company’s claim turned out to be a clear contradiction of Aromolaran’s reality, as the estate she resides in barely gets supplied with adequate power.
To date, her area constantly gets supplied with two days of epileptic power, followed by a whole day of total blackout.
The poor service the Lagos resident was used to enjoying from EKEDC then made her question the heavy payment she was forced to make for the service she never enjoyed.
Aromolaran told FIJ that she also sent a complaint email to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for intervention, but she got no meaningful response from the country’s power industry regulator. That was when she turned to FIJ for help.

I have similar issue of same amount with same EKEDC. I was told to forget it. This happened in February. It’s very terrible of them.
