First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has finally resolved a N60,000 transaction that had been hanging for more than five months.

This followed FIJ’s publication revealing that a Lagos point of sale (POS) agent did not receive the money sent to her OPay account by an FCMB customer on November 2, 2022.

She said she eventually got the money on April 26, 2023, after FIJ’s story.

The PoS agent had said that OPay denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the transaction failed. FCMB, however, maintained that the transfer was successful.

The PoS agent and the FCMB customer visited OPay and FCMB offices several times to recover the missing N60,000 but got no positive response.

Speaking with FIJ on Wednesday morning, an elated Shayo said FCMB sent the money to its customer, who transferred it to her.

“Thank you guys so much. This would not have been possible if God did not use FIJ in getting to the root of the matter,” he said.

“I have paid my creditors immediately. I am so overwhelmed with joy because I never thought I could get the money back.”

When FIJ reached out to the FCMB customer, he corroborated the PoS agent’s statement but noted that he never got a credit alert from his bank.

“They have sent the money back to my account, but they didn’t send me a credit alert. I only simply got a call from them yesterday. They said they had transferred the money back to my account since April 13,” the customer, who asked not to be named, said.

“When l checked my balance on my mobile app, I saw N60,000 in my account. I could not transfer it to the PoS agent immediately because of network issues. I was eventually able to do so on Wednesday morning.

“Thank you so much for your response. I really appreciate everyone of you there.”

The FCMB customer stated that the financial institution did not give the true date the money got into his account. He said he wondered why the bank did not send him a credit alert when the money was finally reversed.

“Why did they have to wait until FIJ took the matter up before they called me? It is really suspicious. That account is my salary account, and I always receive alert for any transaction done on it. I am, however, glad the issue has been resolved,” he said.
