Muhammed Seedu, the Ogun-based car dealer who defrauded Sokunbi Damilola of three million naira, has started refunding the latter in installments.

This breakthrough came after FIJ exposed how Seedu, who was reluctant to refund his victim or even provide the car he had collected money for, enjoyed protection from Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State police spokesman.

“I went to the headquarters on March 31 to collect the money, but it was only a million naira that Seedu brought to them,” Damilola told FIJ. “He promised to bring another one by the end of April.”

Despite being defrauded by Seedu, Damilola was victimised twice. First, he was arrested by the Lafenwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO) on the orders of Seedu.

In September 2021, Seedu, also known as Mekudi, collected N3 million from Damilola with the promise of purchasing a car for him from Cotonou, Benin Republic, but he neither delivered the car nor returned the money.

After FIJ’s story, Lanre Bankole, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police (CP), took over the case and assured Damilola that he would get back his money.

The CP asked Seedu to refund the money or risk arraignment in court.

Seedu pleaded to refund the money in three months, but Damilola disagreed and gave him till the end of March to refund him.

Oyeyemi’s contact number was not reachable. At press time, he had not responded to a text message sent to him.
