Banji Omotayo, an advertising agent (pictured), has paid actors who appeared in an Insight Communications Limited television commercial for First City Monument Bank (FCMB).

On Sunday, FIJ reported how the company failed to pay the actors four months after they shot the advert. On August 9, Insight Communications had promised to pay the actors no later than one month after that date, but it did not.

After the report, Omotayo who recruited the actors on the company’s behalf, then called the actors and FIJ to demand a retraction of the report.

He then paid them on Monday night, sent receipts and began making accusations against one of the actors he believed spoke with FIJ.

“They have paid me. Thank you,” one of the actors who sought anonymity told FIJ. At least four actors confirmed receiving their payments.

Omotayo called Emmanuel Ugwunna, one of the actors, on Tuesday and threatened to visit his house with policemen on Wednesday if he did not pull the FIJ report down.

“What’s the update on your guy to remove the write-up?” Omotayo asked Ugwunna.

“After I have paid now, he has nothing to do about it, abi? If that thing is up after today (Tuesday), I have your house address, I will take a letter, I will make sure I get you arrested, and there is nobody in this world…

“What I will do is, you will see me in front of your doorstep tomorrow morning. You will see me. Both of you will see wrath (sic). When you see me one-on-one… Tomorrow morning, if I don’t come to your house, call me any name. You will appear in the court.”

Meanwhile, after this call, one Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Idimu Station in Lagos called Ugwunna to say Omotayo reported his “conduct” and that he must appear at the station immediately.

This policeman, however, agreed to receive Ugwunna on Wednesday. FIJ texted Omotayo to ask about the threat, but he blocked FIJ’s number on WhatsApp.

This, however, was not the first step taken by people acting on behalf of Insight Communications to pull the story down.

With 24 hours of publication of the story, two people reached out to FIJ’s Founder and Editor-in-Chief, asking for the story to be taken down. When told that this was impossible, they then asked FIJ to publish a rejoinder on the matter.

But they were reminded that FIJ contacted Insight before going to press, and the response was captured in the story, hence any rejoinder could only be published when the artistes had been paid for their services.
