Jumia, a Nigerian online market, has made a refund of N347,800 to Theophilus Okonoboh, a customer who paid for a Kemage 11kva generator in March.
Theophilus said he received the money on Wednesday evening, seven days after FIJ’s story on the e-market‘s refusal to refund him.

According to Theophilus, after FIJ reached out to Jumia, the online shop contacted him and asked that he resend the proof of payment.
“They told me that I’d have to reorder the generator if I still wanted it, but the price had increased. With the way they were behaving, I doubted if they had the generator, so I was just okay with getting my money back,” he said.
The Benin resident had ordered the generator, which comes with a remote control, for the effective running of his business, and although he paid into Jumia’s account as instructed, he did not get the generator. All he had been getting were excuses.
