Policemen attached to the Ogudu Police Division in Lagos State have returned a balance of N50,000 to Ayodele Ilemibayo, a student of the Ekiti State University, whose N150,000 they stole at gunpoint on January 4.

They had returned N100,000 four days after the incident and promised to return the rest on Saturday, but failed to do so.

On Tuesday, FIJ called Akande Ajoke, the DPO of the station, and she promised to look into the matter to ensure he gets his full refund.

Ilemibayo informed FIJ via WhatsApp on Wednesday that they sent him the rest of his money on Tuesday afternoon.

“Thank you, sir,” he told FIJ. “The money has been refunded and the culprits have been identified. I want to say a big thank you to you.”

Ilemibayo’s encounter with the police would have gone under the radar if the three errant policemen’s plans had succeeded.

Little did they know that the student would take to his X page to call them out, prompting FIJ to reach out to the Police Complaints Response Unit (CRU).

Three days after the incident, the DPO invited Ilemibayo to her office to identify the policemen who attacked him and get his money back.

There, he pointed out the policemen and they apologised. The DPO then entrusted ASP Ibrahim Yusuf with the responsibility of recovering the money from them and sending it back to the student.

Yusuf sent N100,000 to him a day later and sent the rest on Tuesday.
