The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) has released the results of more than 100 ex-mass communication students who graduated between 2016 and 2018.

This development came after an FIJ report revealed how the polytechnic lost students’ results due to a system crash in 2018, keeping them stuck in a career slump for five years.

While some students claimed in the report that they had been alienated by families who thought they had not finished their education or had been rusticated, others claimed they had not been able to secure suitable jobs due to their inability to produce evidence of a Higher National Diploma (HND) completion.

Following the story, Lekan Togunwa, the mass communication head of department (HOD), and Yemi Ajibola, the polytechnic’s public relations and protocol head, said the school had prepared the results of the students from the 2016–2018 academic year and the delay in its release was due to a civil action undertaken by academic and non-academic staff to protest non-payment of salaries.

One month later, FIJ received news that the institution had released the results of the students.

“With joy, I want to inform you that our results have been released and published on our portal on Wednesday [sic],” one of the affected students wrote to FIJ.

He, however, added that there were some inconsistencies in the results.

“Personally, my score for the first semester was tampered with; instead of an upper credit, I got a lower credit of 2.93,” he said.

In a joint statement signed by Oluwaseyi, the students expressed gratitude to Tonguwa, the polytechnic’s mass communication department, and FIJ.

“We want to thank the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), led by Mr. Fisayo Soyombo, for their positive contributions; without them, there are possibilities we would not achieve this. Finally, the disputed results have been published on our portal,” the statement read in part.
