Twitter has suspended a fake handle claiming to represent the Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) customer care service unit.
This came after FIJ revealed that the account, @gauranrty, was requesting GTBank customers’ details through a WhatsApp number.

FIJ had sent a message to the handle under the guise of a customer with banking problems on May 16, but was directed to a WhatsApp number through which details of the bank account affected were requested.
An automated reply identified the imposter as Joy. They asked for our reporter’s account number, as well as the email address and telephone number associated with the account.
After this, a link containing a ‘complaint form’ was sent by the imposter.

The form bore the Guaranty Trust Holding Company PLC (GTCO) logo and spaces for an account number, exact complaint, and the last six digits of the debit card attached to the account, among others.
These details, if provided by unsuspecting customers, can be used to deduct money from their accounts.
