Zenith Bank has refunded N800,000 to Thomas Ochuka, a Lagos Sate-based electrician.

This came five days after FIJ reported how the sum mysteriously vanished from Ochuka’s Zenith Bank account.

“I received an SMS on my phone this afternoon and when I checked, I saw that Zenith Bank had credited my account with my N800,000 that once vanished,” Ochuka told FIJ on Tuesday.

“I can’t thank you enough, FIJ. May God continue to bless and strengthen your company. I am very grateful. Now, I can quickly use the money in prosecuting the client’s project it is meant for. Thank you so much.”

A client had sent the sum to Ochuka on February 6 so he could assist him in carrying out a project. However, in the early hours of February 7, the electrician received four debit alerts that showed that the money had been debited from his account without his consent.

Ochuka said he subsequently tried lodging a complaint at a Zenith Bank branch close to him, but the bank had shut down its Lagos branches to prevent attacks from residents protesting fuel and cash scarcity.

When he eventually visited one of the bank’s functional centres in Ilupeju, the officials he spoke with could not give him an assurance that the money would be recovered.
