30.08.2024 Featured After Inviting Joe Ajaero, Police Want NLC Secretary Too

After inviting Joe Ajaero, the National Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has extended a second invitation requiring NLC Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja.

In a letter FIJ saw on Friday, the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the NPF in Abuja told Ajaero to bring Ugboaja to its complex on Thursday.

On Ajaero’s previous visit to the FCID in Abuja, he described the invitation as a mere distraction away from the struggles of Nigerian workers demanding better conditions from the government.

“Comrade, what is important is the circumstances that took me there. For whatever reason, we are out to continue the struggle. We are talking about the minimum wage, which has not been implemented,” Ajaero said after his initial release.

The FID says that Ugboaja’s invitation to Abuja was because of its investigation into “alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause breach of public peace and malicious damage to properties” where his name featured.

The letter states that the deputy inspector-general at the FID would interview both Ajaero and Ugboaja.

FIJ’s Daniel Ojukwu was abducted by the police in May. The Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) kept Ojukwu in custody for nine days for a story for this story and this story.

Fisayo Soyombo, FIJ’s founder was also invited by the NPF-NCCC for questioning for the same story a few months after Ojukwu’s abduction.
