An unidentified baby has been found dead in the Oke-Ado area of Agege, Lagos State.

The baby was discovered in a canal by passersby on Saturday.

Although details of how the baby died or ended up in the canal remain sketchy, residents and commuters confirmed it was unconscious and lying facedown in the canal’s contaminated water.

One resident of the area, who simply identified as Ojo, told FIJ the baby was discovered in the evening of Saturday but no one had reached out to the police or attempted to retrieve it.

Ojo told FIJ that passersby and residents were unwilling to go close to the baby.

Efforts to contact Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), proved abortive as calls made to his number were unanswered. He had also not responded to a text message sent to him at press time.
