In an evening interview on Monday, Bashir Machina had told Seun Okingbaloye of Channels TV that he was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Yobe North. He said he had the support and blessing of his party members to decisively fight and win the seat in the forthcoming general election.
While presenting proof of his candidacy, Machina stated that Ahmed Lawan did not contest in the last Yobe North APC senatorial election, insisting that he was the candidate chosen by members of the APC party in Yobe North.
The senate president, Ahmed Lawan, contested in the just concluded APC presidential primary election and lost to Ahmed Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State.
FIJ placed several calls to INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, to verify the claim, but his phone was switched off. A message sent to him had also not been responded to at press time.
