Muhammed Muntaqa, an environmental consultant in Nasarawa State, has accused Arik Air, an airline, of stubbornly holding on to his money a month after he demanded a refund.

Muntaqa told FIJ his ordeal with the airline company started on February 19, when he initiated a refund of his N295,503 after the company cancelled his flight without adequate prior notice.

The consultant said he booked the flight for himself and two other people who needed to be present for a contract negotiation in Yobe State but they could not travel on time because Arik ruined his plans.

“The flight was scheduled for 4:50 pm on February 19, but two hours before takeoff, Arik Air informed me via a message that they had postponed takeoff until 6 pm,” Muntaqa told FIJ.

“By 5:30 pm, Arik Air sent a mail, saying the flight would not operate. I was supposed to be in Yobe on February 21 in order not to lose the contract. So, I booked Air Peace to go.”

Muntaqa said he requested a refund of his money on February 22 and Arik sent him a form to fill out, which he did.

He said the company told him since what happened was a case of flight cancellation, they would refund him within three days, but the promise was not fulfilled.

“I have sent them a mail, but they didn’t reply. I also called their number, but they’re not answering my calls,” Muntaqa said.

When FIJ reached out to the airline via email, a respondent for the customer relationship team said “the concern has been escalated to the relevant department for attention”.
