Victory Onojiafe, a sports bettor in Delta State, won N100 million from Betway on January 11 but cannot withdraw N70 million of his money because the betting company will not let him.

Onojiafe told FIJ that after he withdrew N30 million from his winnings, every attempt to withdraw more was either reversed or blocked. This was despite contacting Betway’s customer care representatives.

His problem started a few days after he placed two N2,500 bets on the Aviator game via Betway to win N100 million. He said he was able to withdraw N30 million in the first three days but, afterwards, he could no longer withdraw.

“Now Betway has logged me out of my account. I no longer have access to it. Before they logged me out, I had about N70 million in my account,” Onojiafe told FIJ.

The bettor said he contacted a Betway customer care representative after first encountering a withdrawal issue, but the respondent told him his limit was N10 million daily.

“I told myself there was no problem and waited until the following morning. But when I tried to withdraw, the transaction was reversed. Sometimes, it would hang, but it never got to my account,” he said.

Onojiafe said when he called a customer care representative who another Betway customer asked him to relay his problems to, they asked him to be patient for 48 hours.

“I waited for 48 hours, but I still didn’t get my money. Then I tried betting during that 48-hour period and won N2 million. I did that, thinking they wanted me to keep playing, but after I couldn’t withdraw, I realised they wanted me to lose my winnings,” he said.

“They have to pay me because when I was losing, they did not log me out. I sold my house to bet and lost the money. I deserve to win now.”

FIJ called Betway to inquire what might be wrong and why Onojiafe had no access to his account, but a respondent said she could not comment on information about a customer.

When asked for their corporate communications contact or phone number, the respondent said the number FIJ dialled was the only available contact detail.
