The governor has now accused him of “creating tension” in Kano State, according to TheCable.

Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, conveyed the governor’s directive as follows: “The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate arrest of the former Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, for creating tension in the state,” the statement reads.

“The former Emir was smuggled into Kano city last night in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed by the Governor.

“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the Commissioner of Police to arrest the deposed Emir with immediate effect for disturbing public peace and attempting to destroy the relative peace the state enjoys.”

On Thursday, FIJ reported that the governor deposed Bayero and signed a new bill repealing a 2019 law that divided Kano Emirate into five and reappointed Muhammad Sanusi as the Emir of Kano under a unified Kano Emirate.

Bayero then vacated palace and left the state to an undisclosed location.

In Bayero’s favour, Justice A.M. Liman of a Kano Federal High Court, however, gave an interim order the same Thursday to halt the process of reinstating Sanusi. Notwithstanding, the governor went ahead, accusing the judge of issuing the order from the United States where he was at the time.

The governor presented a letter of appointment to the former Central Bank of Nigeria’s governor on Friday at the government house in the state.

Following the presentation, Sanusi proceeded to the palace. He began his new role by leading the Friday prayer in Kano City the same Friday.

Apprehension, however, set in early Saturday morning when the deposed emir returned to the state and reportedly went straight to take over the palace under strict multi-agency security details.
