Armed policemen have strategically positioned themselves in and around Ikeja, Lagos, in anticipation of the much-publicised June 12 protests, FIJ can report.
The FIJ reporter who went round the axis spotted the Police and one of their vans at ‘Ikeja Under-bridge’. He counted 10 policemen in all even though there was no single protester in sight.
At Allen Roundabout, there were two police pickup vans on ground but no protester in sight.
Similarly, at Ojota, close to the Freedom Park, a van was spotted even though there was no sign a protest would commence anytime soon.
The June 12 protest initially began as an idea struggling to gain traction among members of the public. But as the date drew closer and the Federal Government pulled a surprise on the people by banning Twitter operations in the country, more and more people started to express support for the idea.
The administration of Muhammadu Buhari is well-known for clamping down on protesters, as seen with the injuring and killing of #EndSARS protesters last year and the arrest and detention of participants in a follow-up early this year.
