FIJ gathered that the crisis has escalated to the road linking Mayfair to Ede in Ile-Ife, while the campus gate of the Obafemi Awolowo University in the town has been shut to prevent infiltration by angry youth.

“The university’s security agents are now turning incoming public transport vehicles back,” a source said.

Yemisi Opalola, Osun State Police spokesperson, told FIJ that the Commissioner of Police had gone to Ile-Ife to quell the situation.

“The incident is true,” she said. “In fact, the commissioner, alongside his tactical team, has arrived at the scene. I can confirm to you the death of five Modakeke indigenes.”
