Following his impeachment, the lawmakers swore in Mojisola Meranda, Obasa’s deputy and the lawmaker representing Apapa 1 as the new speaker.

Meranda will be the first female speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

In 2020, a viral report accused Obasa of owning over 60 bank accounts which were all linked to his Bank Verification Number (BVN). It revealed that the bank accounts were opened under different names and different commercial banks.

The report stated that the different bank accounts were being used to divert public funds in the state.

In the same year, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited and questioned Obasa over allegations of fraud and financial mismanagement. Obasa denied any wrongdoing.
