04.11.2021 news BREAKING: Lagos Policeman Stabs Cyclist to Death Over N50 Bribe

A police officer attached to Meiran Police Station, Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos, has stabbed a commercial tricycle rider to death. 

A source who asked not to be named told FIJ that several police officers stopped the tricycle rider on Thursday and demanded a bribe of N50, but he refused to give in.

“He refused to bribe them. The policemen are constantly collecting money from motorcycle and tricycle riders in that area. However, this gentleman refused to pay them this time,” he said.

“One of the angry police officers brought out a machete and stabbed the driver to death when he refused to give them money. After he died, his union members rushed to the scene to protest, but the police officers teargassed them and shot in the air.”

CSP Ajisebutu Adekunle, Lagos State Police spokesperson, did not respond to several calls from FIJ. He also did not reply to a text message sent to him.

The incident has led to a clash between riders of commercial tricycles and police officers assigned to Meiran Police Station.
