President Bola Tinubu will make a national address at 7 am on Sunday.

This is according to Ajuri Ngelale, his media aide.

The announcement comes three days into the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.

Ngelale’s statement titled, ‘PRESIDENT TINUBU TO ADDRESS THE NATION’, read:

“President Bola Tinubu will address the nation in a broadcast on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7:00 am.

“Television, radio, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to plug into the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.

“The broadcast will be repeated on the network services of the NTA and the FRCN at 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on the same day.”

On Thursday, Nigerians began a 10-day protest against government policies that have increased the cost of living and devalued the country’s currency.

With placards, citizens gathered at several locations across the country to demand policy reversals and better governance. In retaliation, men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Department of State Services (DSS) opened fire, killing no fewer than 20 persons and injuring several more. The police also arrested over 200 persons.

While protesters were demanding for a reaction from the president, Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, said Tinubu was monitoring the protests.

“Mr President has been monitoring the situation, as he ought to,” Bagudu said during an interview on Channels Television.

“Bagudu said, “Very responsibly, and alert. I am a minister. I also have responsibilities. I have also been monitoring this thing. I have been noting this thing so that I can make inputs. We have been monitoring and listening carefully to hear what is being said and what noting them.”

That’s quite ill-timed because if he were serious and had the interest of the masses at heart, this should have been done a day before the protest began or the evening of the first day of protest!

Nigerians are truly suffering ,this situation we find ourselves is out of hand but that does not give grounds to destroying our own Infrastructures because it is gonna add to more suffering and that will worsen the situation.
