Opeyemi Adekanbi, a Lagos resident, has narrated how John Chikelu, an online vendor, duped his fiancée, Olayinka Animashaun, out of N85,000.
Speaking with FIJ, Adekanbi stated that his fiancée had patronised Chikelu for the delivery and shipment of some goods in October.

“My fiancée, Animashaun, sells bags, shoes and clothes. She used to buy her goods from Idumota in Lagos, but when she relocated to Owode, she had to seek an alternative because of the distance and her health,” he told FIJ.
“She chose to learn online importation to minimise the stress of ordering her goods. She joined a mini-importation class and bought an item which was shipped and delivered to her. She trusted John Chikelu, who was the agent she communicated, and decided to order in bulk.”
Adekanbi said his fiancée then went further to order goods worth N85,000 from Chikelu, who upon receiving the money blocked her.
“After the first set of goods were delivered, Animashaun trusted the agent and went ahead to order goods worth N85,000.
“She was to pay N50,000 for the goods and N35,000 for the shipment.”
He further stated that the process became suspicious when the account details Chikelu sent to receive the payment was for one Elizabeth Ayansi.
“When Chikelu would send his account details, he sent one belonging to one Elizabeth Ayansi,” he said.

“On October 18, my fiancée sent him money for the goods and immediately he received it, he blocked her on WhatsApp.
“She has been unable to reach him since then.”
FIJ called John Chikelu and sent him a message, but neither had been responded to at press time.
