The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles a 3-0 victory over Libya in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier following multiple violations by the Libyan Football Federation, FIJ can report.
CAF declared Libya’s scheduled Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Nigeria forfeited in favor of Nigeria.
This decision, communicated by the Federation on Saturday, followed a disciplinary hearing where the Libya Football Federation was found to have breached multiple CAF regulations.
CAF stated that Libya had violated Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations, along with Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. Additionally, the Libya Football Federation has been ordered to pay a fine of USD 50,000 within 60 days of notification.
“The Libya Football Federation is ordered to pay a fine of USD 50,000. The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of the present decision,” the CAF statement read.

The Disciplinary Board dismissed all other appeals from Libya, stating that additional motions for relief would not be considered.
This ruling follows an incident that saw Nigeria’s Super Eagles flight diverted from Benghazi to Al-Abraq Airport, 300 kilometers away, reportedly on orders from Libya’s “highest authority”.
FIJ previously reported that upon arrival at Al-Abraq, the Nigerian players and crew endured a 16-hour wait at the airport without food, drinks or reliable network connections.

William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles’ captain, shared his frustration on X, describing the experience as “disgraceful” and accusing Libyan airport staff of filming and mocking the players. “They have locked the airport gates and left without phone connection, food, or drink. All to play mind games,” he wrote.
