Reverend Fr. Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a Catholic priest, has been declared the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election in Benue State.
Prof Faruq Kuta, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s returning officer in the election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, made the announcement on Monday evening.

At the Saturday’s governorship election, the APC candidate polled 473,933 votes, while Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 223,913 votes.
Prince James Mede, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), came distant third with 1,157 votes.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Church had suspended the governor-elect from public ministry for venturing into politics.
