Charity Ijese Omole, Special Adviser on Youths and Women Mobilisation to Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, is spearheading the recall of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Senate.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate, was suspended for six months after accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
On Monday, Omole led a group that submitted Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall petition to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). She said they had collected the signatures of about 250,000 Kogi Central constituents.
Speaking to journalists after submitting the petition, Omole said that they had lost confidence in Akpoti-Uduaghan’s ability to continue leading them and that they did not want to go without a representative in the National Assembly for months.
“We no longer have confidence in her because of her gross misconduct in the Senate that led to a six-month suspension where the Kogi Central will not be represented at the National Assembly,” Omole told journalists.
“We have come to recall her so that we can have a representative in the Senate because as a people we cannot afford not to have a representative in the Senate arm for another one year. We are here to tell INEC to please follow the constitutional process for her recall so that her process can begin.”
However, many reactions have trailed Omole’s involvement in the suspended senator’s recall, especially after she kept emphasising that the “game is the game”.
FROM ADVOCACY TO CONTRADICTION
Charity Ijese Omole, born on November 24, aside from serving as Special Adviser on Youths and Women Mobilisation to Ododo, is a senior lecturer in the Mass Communication Department of the Federal University Lokoja, Kogi, where she is also currently pursuing a PhD.
She has been lecturing at the university as far back as 2022.

She is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Special Adviser in the same Ododo administration before being promoted to the position of Special Adviser.
Ododo appointed Omole to this new office in March.
FIJ found that Omole combines her political career with running her own events company called “ChaCha Events”.
Even though she once advocated against sexual abuse in 2017, she recently told the media that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s sexual harassment claim lacked evidence.

The lecturer, during an interview in June 2024, pleaded with the state government to allow more women representation in governance and decision-making processes.
“As we celebrate 25 years of democracy, we must recognise the critical role women have played in shaping our state’s progress,” Omole said.
“Let us work together to create a more inclusive and equitable society where women’s voices are heard and valued.”
Also, from details on her X page, she was actively involved in the administration of Yahaya Bello, the immediate past former governor of Kogi who is being tried by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Meanwhile, many Nigerians have accused her of scheming to replace Akpoti-Uduaghan in the Senate. Whether she has political aspirations of her own or is simply executing her political party’s directives remains to be seen.
