A Labour Party (LP) agent in the 2024 Edo governorship election, who simply identified himself as Hassan, has said that his colleagues and most voters cast their ballot for money and food on Saturday.
Hassan said this in an interview with News Central as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collated the results on Sunday.

“I am a Labour Party (LP) member. The election was successful. There was nothing like fight (sic). What really made the election to go well was because of the money that was involved. Other political parties were sharing money while some did not have money to share. That was how we voted,” Hassan told the interviewer.
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shared money but it was not up to the amount of the APC. So, because of the money, even PDP members and LP members followed money. They were voting for money.
“In my own polling booth, APC got 185 while the PDP got eight and LP got three. It was an open ballot election, it wasn’t a secret election and we did it successfully and there was enough security. Nobody coughed and nobody made any noise.
“Election was not rigged. The INEC officials did everything openly. They counted their papers and we saw it all. What I know is that APC still cooked and brought food for everybody. They did not care if you were an APC agent or a PDP agent. They were taking care of people. Our people in Edo North here voted for money.
“Somebody that was hungry, you couldn’t ask the person to go and do this. They will be angry with you. I even saw some of my members from the LP voting for the APC. I voted for Labour but I could not go and question my fellow Labour agents who were voting for the APC.”
