For allegedly defaming the character of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Kano State Governor, Mu’azu Magaji Danbala will be remanded in prison on the order of a magistrate’s court sitting in the state.
Danbala, according to a report by Daily Trust, was accused of acting in connivance with Jamilu Shehu, who is currently on the run, to make a defamatory statement against the governor and two of his children, Abdul’aziz and Balaraba, on Facebook.
On Wednesday, the two men were arraigned in Aminu Gabari’s court for conspiracy, intentional insult, public disturbance and defamation of character contrary to Section 97, 114, 391 and 399 of the Penal Code.
“You both conspired and posted on the Facebook platform the image and portrait of His Excellency, Executive Governor of Kano State, including his children, Abdulaziz Ganduje and Balaraba Ganduje, with a bold written on it [sic] ‘Barayin Kano’ (Kano thieves), knowing fully well that your action may result in breach of peace within the state and outside. You are therefore suspected to have committed the above mentioned offences”, the first information report read in court was quoted to have stated.
