A banker in Lagos has accused Wallets Africa, a cross-border payment platform, of withholding his N25,000 and preventing her from accessing their services.
The banker, who asked not to be named, told FIJ he created an account with the platform on February 1 when he desperately needed a payment platform to purchase a service online.
He said since he deposited in his account, he had not withdrawn his money or purchased any online product.
He also said he downloaded the Wallets Africa app and paid the sum of N25,000 into his account because the platform would not let him proceed with registration until he deposited some money in his wallet.

“When I funded my account, the whole page became accessible. I decided to see how the platform worked by trying to recharge this phone, but the app told me to upload some documents. I did but was never successful,” he told FIJ.
The banker said while he kept trying to get Wallets Africa to approve his documents, the deadline for what he wanted to pay for elapsed.
He said he sent Wallets Africa an email requesting his money, but what he discovered shocked him.
“I sent a mail to their email address – the contact I got on their website. But Google said the contact was not registered on their platform,” he said.

“I chatted with their Twitter account, but the issue remained because the admin said they were having issues with their back end. Later, he stopped being responsive and then blocked me on Twitter. How would you block a customer?
“I began conducting research on them. When I looked at the Google Play Store reviews, I found several negative comments about the company. It was still the same on Twitter.”
FIJ called Wallets Africa via their official line, but it was not available. They had also not responded to a text sent to them at press time.
FIJ attempted to send Wallets Africa a text on WhatsApp, but their account was inactive.
