Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have raided two clubhouses in Akure, Ondo State, despite a ban on night sting operations by Olanipekun Olukayode, the agency’s chairman, last November.
@YemieFash, an X user and youth leader in the state, tweeted on Saturday morning that officials of the EFCC conducted a raid on two clubs over the night and made random arrests.
He also stated that besides the arrest, the officials of the anti-graft agency also confiscated cell phones and damaged closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.

“The @officialEFCC conducted a raid on two clubs in Akure overnight. They carried out physical assaults on almost everyone in the club, used tear gas, made random arrests, confiscated the phones of all the females present, damaged the CCTV cameras, and took away the engine. Some people were being rushed to the hospital. This is totally unacceptable!” He said.

Reacting to the incident, Akintunero, an X user, stated that it was becoming a norm for junior officers to flout commands issued by their superiors.
“I thought their 001 said no more raiding at night. It looks like it’s becoming a norm in the force when bosses give an order and subordinates flout it like it’s nothing. The same is true with the police force. This is not good for us as a country. I hope they are not kidnappers in disguise and I’m rooting for signature et al to press charges against them,” he said.
Olanipekun banned night sting operations in November, after the arrest of 69 students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ilfe, Osun State, stirred a controversy.
