The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) plans to arraign Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a TikToker arrested in Kano “for abusing and mutilating the Naira”, and former Edo State personnel Kelly Okungbowa, soon. Yet, the commission has been quiet about Subomi and Wahab, sons of businessman Rasaq Okoya who filmed the misuse of currency notes months ago.
Okungbowa, also known as Ebo Stone, was arrested for naira abuse on March 9.
The EFCC said Okungbowa “was the coordinator of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSRT)” but was “suspended by the State Government”.
On Monday, the EFCC stated that Kunya was rearrested on Sunday for spraying naira notes for fun during her stay in a hotel room at Tahir Guest Palace in Kano several weeks ago.
After the Naira notes incident, EFCC initially arrested Kunya in January. This was the same month a video clip showing the Okoya siblings spraying different naira denominations emerged on social media.

About Kunya, the EFCC stated, “She was initially arrested in January 2025 for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Act which prohibits the abuse and mutilation of the Naira. She was granted an administrative bail by the Commission pending her arraignment before the Federal High Court in Kano. However, when it was time for her court appearance, Kunya absconded, evading the legal processes.”
EFCC said its operatives re-arrested the TikTok influencer after weeks of intensive investigation and surveillance. “She was subsequently conveyed to the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Commission, where she is currently in custody awaiting her arraignment.”
Meanwhile, the video of Subomi and Wahab dancing to a promotion for one of the sibling’s upcoming songs was spotted on X on January 7.
It attracted mixed reactions, with many Nigerian social media users speculating that the EFCC might not treat the siblings, who are sons of popular businessman Okoya, the same way it treated Nigerians in the same situation.

The reactions became even more intense when a policeman, who only held wads of new banknotes for the two brothers in the video, was detained by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for his ‘unethical’ role in the abuse of naira incident.
After some public queries, the EFCC invited Subomi and Wahab to the commission’s Lagos office on January 13.
More than two months later, the EFCC, known for consistently releasing press statements on its activities, such as arrests, arraignments and convictions, has remained silent on the case involving the Okoya siblings.
