Over a year since Ajadi Habeeb, the leader of a notorious car theft network in Kwara State, began evading police arrest, he has been sighted in his house, FIJ can exclusively confirm.

Back in October 2019, Babatunde Glorious and Shola Akano, two detectives of the Kwara State Police Command, had busted the criminal gang led by Ajadi but instead of enforcing the arrest of the prime suspect, the two policemen were illegally dismissed because of the indicting evidence they had obtained against their superiors protecting Ajadi.

FIJ’s investigation in February confirmed that Ajadi vacated his houses at Ogidi Technical School area and at the farm in Maigida, both on the outskirts of Ilorin, shortly after two of his gang members confessed while in police custody.

A source confirmed to FIJ that Ajadi briefly visited his house at about 6pm on Monday to move out some valuables.

“Four of them came to the house but didn’t stay too long. They parked a space car faraway while they all walked inside,” the source said.

“When they were leaving, they drove two other cars — one Toyota Camry and one Toyota Camry Pencil — out of the compound.”

Dr. Abdulrasak Omowunmi, the owner of the stolen car that led to the detectives’ investigation on Ajadi, had since recovered his car, although under bond.

He told FIJ the condition of bond meant that he could not sell his car, as he can still be required to submit it in the course of investigation.

When FIJ contacted Ajayi Okasanmi, the Kwara police spokesman, on phone about our findings, he feigned ignorance of the case. For the second time he was speaking with FIJ over the same matter, he invited the reporter to the Command for enquiries.

Meanwhile, the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja has commenced investigation into FIJ’s report on the dismissed policemen and the entire Kwara Command.
