The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has offered appointments to some Nigerians through a politician. This followed the agency’s disclaimer of blog posts claiming that it was recruiting suitable Nigerians into open job roles.
A number of blogs had circulated FAAN recruitment claims on their websites and social media channels. It would, however, turn out that the FAAN’s denial of the claims was a smokescreen to divert public attention from what was supposed to be a transparent and competitive job recruitment process as required by law.

In his response of November 28, FAAN warned citizens to be wary of those blogs. The press release, signed by Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, read in part: “Do Not Patronise Counterfeit recruitment Websites. FAAN is not Recruiting.

“The attention of the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has been drawn to the information circulating on social media that FAAN is recruiting and requesting people to apply online
“The Authority uses this medium to reiterate that FAAN is neither recruiting directly presently nor has the Authority contracted anyone to carry out recruitment exercise on her behalf.
“The general public is herewith advised to be wary of such counterfeit recruitment websites and desist from patronising them to avoid being scammed.”
FAAN’S LIES EXPOSED

On his X account on Tuesday, a federal lawmaker congratulated some members of his constituency for whom he had facilitated job placements at FAAN.
Dominic Dickson Tarkighir, the House of Representatives member representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, listed 17 people as beneficiaries of his job facilitation.
In his post, Tarkighir said the beneficiaries had been given an opportunity to work in “Class A” federal agencies. The post reads: “Today we congratulate 13 young Engineers and four others who have been given the opportunity to serve their fatherland in 4 different class A federal Agencies,” he said. “It is our hope that you will make your country proud when you eventually resume duties. Meantime I invite beneficiaries to my office in the national Assembly on Friday 08/12/23 to collect your letters.”

Attached to the post was an appointment letter with a reference number FAAN/HQ/HR/RTP/477.5/Vol. VI, dated November 27 and addressed to Ijir Stephen Tersoo. The date on the letter strongly indicated that it was issued a day after the management of FAAN published the disclaimer on its website.

FAAN is an agency of the federal government domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Aviation.
Tarkighir represented his constituency in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. He lost his reelection bid in 2019 but succeeded in 2023, making him the federal legislator from the area in the 10th House of Representatives.
Nigerian institutions are in the habit of violating recruitment laws by engaging in job racketeering and underhand dealings, thereby shortchanging thousands of eligible people in the process.
