On Sunday, a news report stated that Vice President Kashim Shettima earns an annual basic salary and allowance of N12,126,290.
The report cited the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).
Several social media users then began claiming that the federal government made the claim.
One such page, @Naija_PR, shared the claim on X at 1:49 pm on Sunday, and as of press time, it had earned over 981,000 views, 9,600 likes and over 1,100 reposts.
CLAIM: VP Shettima earns N12,126,290 in salaries and allowances per year.

VERIFICATION: FIJ visited the RMAFC website on Monday to verify the origin of the claim.
On the RMAFC website, there exists a landing page which hosts files for public downloads.

Titled ‘Remuneration Package for Political and Judicial Office Holders’, the document contains salaries and allowances of political office holders. However, while the figure in the document matches that in the circulating claim, the document says the package is for February 2007 to June 2009.

FIJ scanned through the website and found no more recent document on the 2025 remuneration.
To confirm the recency of the figures, FIJ checked what the document had for the president’s annual salary. According to RMAFC, the president was entitled to N14,058,820 annually. This translates to N1,171,568 monthly.
When FIJ checked the Govspend portal to find what Shettima and President Bola Tinubu earned monthly, only Tinubu’s July 2024 salary came up.

In that month, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), paid N13,053,466.37 directly to Tinubu as monthly salary, independent of allowances. This monthly figure is N1 million shy of the figure the outdated RMAFC document quotes as the president’s annual salary.
CONCLUSION: While there is no official public record to show the vice president’s salary, the quoted source of information is old, and part of the document already differs from current realities.
VERDICT: Misleading.
