Temitope Okunloye, a Lagos-based man, has narrated how fake police officials extorted him in Lagos around 7:30 am on Thursday.
Temitope told FIJ that the men in police uniform stopped him at Ojota Bus Stop, using a minibus. He claimed that they had stopped some other people.

“After they stopped me, they asked me to open my car for them to enter, and I obeyed them so I wouldn’t look like I was resisting arrest, since I thought they were real police officers,” he said.
“They accused me of obstruction, and I wondered how, because I was on the express. They asked me to drive while they sat in my car.
“When I got to the new garage, they told me to park, and one of them collected my key and drove, while I joined one of them in the back seat. Another officer was in the front seat.
“They drove off towards Oshodi and later moved to NAHCO complex, Ikeja. I then asked if there was any police station around there, but they ignored me. I stylishly took a picture of one of the officers.
“They said my offence was N240,000 but I should drop N120,000 so they could let me go. They then opened my bank app and saw N27,000 there. They asked me to call my wife or anybody that could transfer money to me, but I refused.”
Temitope told FIJ that as the fake officers left NAHCO complex and faced Oshodi again, they started running upon realising that the police had sighted them.

According to Temitope, the police chased them from Oshodi Oke to Oworo bus stop where they made a U-turn.
“They maneuvered to Ikorodu road, towards Palmgroove and Onipan. While escaping from the police, they were just hitting cars, and in the process, the police hit my car at the back.
“After they realised that they had lost the police, they gave me a Kuda Microfinance Bank account number, where I transferred the N27,000 I had in my account into, and they confirmed the alert. Immediately they confirmed the alert, they stopped the car in Onipanu, left my key and ran away,” Temitope said.
He said he immediately reported the case to the Alausa Police Station, Ikeja, but the police didn’t promise to do anything.
Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, had not responded to a message sent to him as of press time.
