The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has opened a directory of fraudulent investment businesses in the country.
The move was necessitated by the deluge of investment scam complaints sent to FIJ’s editorial email, [email protected]

Those cases of fraud were about hair vendors, but majority of the complaints have since been about out-and-out investment scams promising impossible Returns on Investment (RoIs). Since March 4, FIJ has published at least 27 scam-related stories.

“We have virtually become Nigeria’s investment scam newspaper,” observed ‘Fisayo Soyombo , Founder/Editor-in-Chief of FIJ.

“This was not the plan when we launched out on January 20 with the intention to combine social-justice coverage with our investigative reporting. But our ultimate discovery is that there are people who are genuinely gullible, so we want to try and help them with this one-stop link spotlighting Nigeria’s most notorious investment scammers.
“The well-worn modus operandi of investment scammers, when they reappear after months or years of disappearance, is to make slight alterations to their personal identities or business names. The tricks are always the same. We hope this directory saves a few people from falling prey to slick, sweet-talking investment scammers.”

FIJ’s investment scam directory will be updated bimonthly and re-published on our homepage, but the public need not necessarily visit our homepage to retrieve it. The keywords ‘Investment Scam FIJ’ should always produce it.
