Chikwendu King, a Port Harcourt-based businessman, has narrated how First Bank deducted a total of N10,500 from his account between July 19, 2021, and May 25, 2022.

King told FIJ that the first debit of N5,100 was on July 19. Then, a week after, he experienced a failed airtime recharge of N1500.

“Last year, on July 19 specifically, I made a N5,100 transaction. I was debited and not credited. A week later, I recharged MTN N1500, but I have not received the airtime till today,” he said.

King said he initiated a N3,900 transaction on May 25, and it also turned out to be a failed transaction.

“On May 25, I also got a debit of N3,900 but it was not credited. This one happened in the supermarket,” he said.

King told FIJ that he reached out to First Bank via Instagram after his efforts at the bank proved fruitless. He was told the debits had been resolved and his account credited.

“I did not see any refund. So I went to the bank again and made a report narrating that I experienced failed transactions on three consecutive occasions. As I am speaking to you now, nothing has been done about it,” he said.

King testified that banking at First Bank was not a good experience for him. “I have patronised other banks, but only First Bank has been stressing me. I have many other debits that I can no longer track, but these ones are still very fresh in my mind because of the inconvenience it caused me,” he said.

FIJ made several calls to First Bank for comments, but they were not answered. An email sent to them had also not been responded to at press time.
