Mosunmola Jubril, an Ogun State-based POS merchant, has accused First Bank of holding on to her N9,000 after she experienced an ATM dispense error while trying to withdraw cash.

Jubril told FIJ that since the incident happened at a UBA terminal on November 9, all efforts to get First Bank to reverse the money to her account had been unsuccessful.

“On November 9, I decided to visit a UBA ATM in Osiele, Abeokuta, to withdraw N9,000. Unfortunately, I got debited without receiving cash,” said Jubril.

“I was hoping the cash would be automatically reversed into my account but that did not happen.”

The POS merchant said she subsequently visited one of the bank’s branches in Lafenwa to lodge a complaint on the dispense error.

“Surprisingly, the official that attended to me said the transaction was successful and that I received cash,” Jubril said.

“I found this revelation very shocking because I never received any cash at the terminal. As a matter of fact, I visited the branch a second time and was told the same thing. The feedback they gave me is still not making any sense to me.”

Jubril said she also went on Twitter to lodge a similar complaint on First Bank’s handle but did not get any favourable response as well.

“I then asked them to provide me with video footage showing that I collected the cash like they claimed, but, till we speak, they have not done that,” said Jubril.

Mail sent to First Bank

“To some people, N9,000 may not mean anything, but to me, it means everything. In fact, I need it for my survival. I went through a lot before realising that money and I want it back. I want my money back.”

FIJ sent an email to First Bank for comments on the matter on Wednesday, but it had not been responded to at press time.
