After FIJ’s story on how Shully Export withheld the shipment of a Canada-based Nigerian after an alleged N150,000 extortion by officials of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the shipment firm has vowed not to release the package in its possession until the story is pulled down.
Fikemi Adelowokan, the owner of the shipment, had sent the article to Shully Export, asking that her package be provided within 48 hours.
About a week later, Shully Export wrote Adelowokan, asking her ‘investigative journalist’ to pull down the piece before she could retrieve her shipment. She added that “the corrupt government agencies want their names clean while I am the one affected”.
But Adelowokan insisted on receiving her package first before honouring her request. When she asked when she would receive her package, she received no response until the following day.
The following day, when she finally heard back from Shully Export, she was told to go to the NDLEA and was informed that she would not receive a response again until the report was withdrawn.
On Wednesday, October 19, Adelowokan received a phone call from Shully Export’s agent in Edmonton, Franklin of Rohi Holdings Inc. She said he admonished her to take down the publication and concentrate on retrieving her package instead of getting back at Shully.
Adelowokan stated that removing the report would be unhelpful because she had not yet received her shipment and that she told Franklin that she would request for the report to be updated when she received her package.
She said he told her to let him handle the issue, not to contact Shully again, and to give him a week or two; he would pay Shully from his own wallet and have her shipment delivered. He also told her that he had never asked her for anything before, but now he was asking her to pull the report down.

Franklin told Adelowokan that her parcel would come in on Friday, but that the piece had to be down before he could release it to her and that he was going to step away from the case because he couldn’t deal with the hassle.
Adelowokan sent Franklin a WhatsApp voice message on November 1, as it had been about two weeks since the time frame he requested to resolve the issue and have her shipment delivered to her. However, Franklin chided her for not pulling the story down, and asked that she leave him alone.
He also informed her that there was a ban on shipping to Edmonton, so he could not have received the package. However, Adelowokan says that this is not the case.
“Shully Export set shipment dates for Edmonton on her Instagram page yesterday,” she said. “I also also shipped with another company and received my package on Wednesday last week.”
FIJ called Shully Exports but was unable to continue the conversation due to the disturbance on the line. A message sent to Shully Exports immediately following the call was not returned. When FIJ called Franklin for comments, he said he had nothing to say and that he had already informed Adelowokan that he was not a party to the dispute.
