On Friday, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu claimed that Nigeria was making “real progress” in the fight against insecurity while Kwara State was under unprecedented terror attacks.
Suspected gunmen attacked Lata Nna Kokodo and Gada, all villages in Patigi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara on Thursday.
FIJ gathered that the gunmen attacked the community by first ambushing a group of local vigilantes who were on patrol in the area.
The yet-to-be-identified gunmen were said to have set the vigilantes’ vehicles ablaze as well.
A local media outlet reporting within the vicinity confirmed the incident.
The terrorists attacked the communities with sophisticated weapons, which were unmatched by the local security operatives.
FIJ also found a Facebook post from Tauheed Mohammed who said that the attack had forced 90 per cent of the residents of Lata Nna out of their homes and farms.

Mohammed stated that the incident had disrupted the peace which characterised Lata Nna.
FIJ could not confirm if any resident was killed in the incident.
SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the public relations officer of the Kwara State Police Command, did not answer FIJ’s phone calls on Saturday.
This is as insecurity remains a major challenge in Nigeria. Other states saw terror attacks and abductions between Thursday and Saturday.
Despite this attack and others like it, NSA Ribadu said on Friday that the government was making “real progress” in tackling insecurity across the country.
He further said that most of the lands held hostage by bandits were witnessing changes.
