Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed five farmers, including four females and a male, in Gidan Sule, Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In an interview with Daily Trust on Thursday, Comrade Peter Ahemba, President of Tiv Development Association in the State, revealed that the attackers stormed the village in the night after residents had retired to bed.

“Five persons were lost in Gidan Sule village in Keana LGA due to the attack by suspected Fulani herders on Wednesday night,” he said.

“Four out of the five persons were instantly murdered but one of them whom we thought would survive the attack later died in the hospital.

“Tiv people in Nasarawa State are peace-loving people. There was no misunderstanding between my tribesmen and the suspected Fulani herders in the community so I wonder why the attack was carried out.”

Confirming the incident, ASP Ramhan Nansel, Nasarawa State Police Public Relations Officer, said the command had sent officers of the Counter Terrorism Unit, supported by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Hunters and the Military, to the village after receiving the information.

“On 21/7/2021, at about 23:00hrs, information was received that unknown gunmen, while shooting sporadically, attacked a particular compound at Gidan Sule Village along Lafia-Makurdi road,” he said.
